Food Recovery Program
69堂精品鈥檚 Food Recovery Network (FRN) Program is a part of the national movement to decrease the amount of food wasted and divert that food to those in need. Our FRN chapter here at the 69堂精品 is the first chapter in the state of Alabama. With permission from our dining provider, passionate students within 69堂精品 Sustainability Council pickup food from various dining areas on campus and deliver it to Mobile鈥檚 Salvation Army every Friday afternoon. Currently, we collect from 4 different dining areas on campus: Einstein Bagel Brothers in the Allied Health Building, POD from the Student Center and Humanities, and Java City in the Fresh Food Company every Friday from 12:55-2:55pm. Our students typically collect 40lbs of food a week and have collected over 500lbs since our chapter鈥檚 creation in Spring 2015. Our program not only diverts edible food waste from landfills and our university鈥檚 solid waste, but also donates healthy food such as sandwiches, fruit, and salads to one of the most prominent homeless shelters in Mobile. Food Recycling Program
69堂精品鈥檚 Food Recycling Program is dedicated to diverting food waste from the university鈥檚 solid waste system and landfill. Students, faculty, and community members are able to bring their food waste to a composting drop off located at our community garden. A continual program for the collection of vegetable and fruit waste from 69堂精品 Dining Hall is currently being developed. The food waste is composted and is used as nutrient rich soil for 69堂精品鈥檚 community garden. .
