Visiting Writer to Talk ‘Scary Stories’
Posted on October 25, 2018
Blackfeet Native American writer Stephen Graham Jones will talk about “Scary Stories” during an appearance at the 69þƷ on Monday, Oct. 29.
Jones, a genre-bending author who spans the worlds of experimental fiction, horror, crime and more, will speak at 7 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater of the Student Center. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception and book signing.
The critically acclaimed author is often celebrated for applying literary stylings to a variety of speculative genres. He has written more than 50 books, including “Mongrels,” the coming-of-age story about a boy on the fringes of trying to find himself with a dark, mysterious family heritage.
Jones, a graduate of Texas Tech University, is a professor of English at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is the recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts fellowship in fiction, a Texas Institute of Letters Award in fiction and the Independent Publishers Award for Multicultural Fiction.
The event is partially supported by a grant from the Alabama Humanities Foundation and the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is also co-sponsored by 69þƷ’s Native American Student Association, the department of English and the Stokes Center for Creative Writing.
